Henry and I had a great time on Monday at Lake of the Wood's preschool program about bees. It has been a while since we last went to any of their pre-school programs, and I think the teacher we had is newer-- she was really great with the kids! I was incredibly impressed! Henry and I were the first ones there, and she played alongside him teaching him how to suck "nectar" out of "flowers" to feed the baby bees and the queen bee. She also encouraged him to use some puppets and interacted so well with him, it was like she had known him for a while. He responded incredibly well to this one on one attention, and had a fun time.
After learning about the body parts of bees, looking through bee eyes, hearing about their hives, learning how they work to make honey, and looking at a real one, we went outside to become bees. Henry had a great time buzzing around, gathering nectar from the nearby flowers (the spring beauties have an ultraviolet stripe that we can barely see that actually guides the bees to the nectar). He was having so much fun that leaving brought tears-- he didn't want to go. So it looks like we will be heading back in May for their gardening class!
