Reflecting on Easter

I feel like our Easter was a little more God-focused, and not so Bunny- focused this year.  Granted we did do some of the more typical Easter things:
We attended the mad chaos Chambana likes to call “Eggstravaganza” at West Side Park.  Reminder to self: Never go to this again.  As our kids were following the instructions, standing back from the eggs, going out to look for eggs completely independently from us, the other parents were ready to trample other three year olds to get more candy for their kids.  The irony of the whole thing, though, was that even though Henry ended up with only three eggs in his basket, one of them contained a four pack of tickets to see Thomas and Friends at Assembly Hall.  Good things do come to those who wait.

We also did the Easter baskets from the bunny.  He graciously left an empty egg shell as proof that he ate the egg the kids left out for him, and responded to their letter.

However, what I loved the most this year was our focus on the real “reason for the season”  This year, as part of our egg hunt, we used Resurrection Eggs—they were numbered 1-12, so after we found them, we put them into the right order and opened them during breakfast.  Our breakfast consisted of Resurrection Rolls—we made these on Easter Eve, and the kids were excited to open them, since they knew they were symbolic of the tomb.  Just as planned, they were empty.  And, they were also quite yummy—not good for you at all, but really yummy!  As we ate our rolls and read our scriptures from the eggs, I felt like this was what had been missing.  It is my job to help my kids focus on the purpose behind the celebration, and this time, I felt like I was on the right track.

We have definitely found some life-long traditions for our Easter celebration!
